Calling All Amateur Football Clubs

Specialists in industrial and commercial lighting products, Steel City Lighting Direct, are offering football clubs a chance to get floodlighting for their football pitch, and the added incentive of a free set of junior goal posts, an XBOX 360 or a PS3 with every purchase- just in time for the Christmas raffle!

Steel City Lighting realise that Christmas is a time or giving and for football clubs everywhere this means big business!

Managing Director of Steel City Lighting Direct, Tony Baxter said, “We are offering football clubs across the country this fantastic festive offer to tie in with the increased demand we are experiencing for our sports floodlights.

“At this time of year as the nights draw in, amateur clubs in particular require floodlights in order to stay fully functional and this can be quite costly, an estimated £3000 to be exact. Football is a fantastic sport for youngsters as it gets them off the streets and as most of us at Steel City Lighting Direct have connections to local clubs, we thought it wouldn’t hurt to give them a helping hand this Christmas.”

And what’s more, not only are the experts praising this new offer, Brian Manson who is in the running for the BBC Sports Personality of the Year award for the category, Unsung Hero 2008 for Yorkshire & Lincolnshire, is also endorsing the offer.

He said, “For small clubs everywhere this is a great opportunity. It is not uncommon for smaller clubs to generate a lot of their revenue through fundraising and Christmas fairs I find that it is often a real strain for clubs to come up with worthwhile prizes for these events to encourage people to enter. Imagine having a XBOX 360 or a PS3 up for grabs!”

For clubs or individuals who purchase their Junior Football 5 a Side Football Pitch Floodlight Kit, before December 31 Steel City Lighting Direct will give them either a free set of junior goal posts worth £300, an XBOX 360 or a PS3, which can be used in a Christmas raffle or prize draw.
Their Junior Football 5 a Side Football Pitch Floodlight Kit is a novel solution to floodlighting as it already offers savings of £250, without the added giveaway. As the kit is fully portable, they do not require dreaded planning permission holding up the important stuff- playing football! and what’s more each unit has silent operation, diminishing noise pollution and the all too common diesel engine, which can be dangerous around young children.

Mr Baxter added, “Customers love the kits as they are extremely safe and so easy to use. As well as having silent operation, they have glare-free operation to reduce the light pollution complaints from surrounding neighbours- it is always best to keep them on side we find, especially if you want to invite them to the Christmas bash!”

All of the kits all come with an extendable tripod, which can be extended to heights of over 11 feet high, and their 24 amp power pack, included in the kit, means that these floodlights can operate on full power for two hours. The floodlights can also be switched to half power in which case they can run for up to four hours, ideal for when you are setting up the pitch ready for that big match or vital training session.”

Mr Baxter added, “We would love to hear from individuals or clubs who are seeking to purchase floodlighting for their club, and we would be happy to help them with practical and technical advice.”

Security Lighting Is Beneficial Say South Yorkshire Police

South Yorkshire police are advising local people to invest in external floodlights if they are seeking to bulk up their current home security systems this winter.

Andy Foster, the South Yorkshire Police Deputy Crime Reduction Manager, said, “The prospect of longer winter nights can make us worry more about crime and personal safety. Many people will be returning home from work, school, shopping etc to find homes in darkness and we can feel more vulnerable in the dark especially those who live alone.”

Experts are advising that floodlights, when installed correctly can add an attractive feature to your property and will illuminate dark spots and shadows around your home allowing you to see anyone approaching your home.

Mr Foster added, “Good lighting is an excellent way to deter a thief, this is because it makes offenders feel vulnerable and observed. There are many types of external security lights available and range in price significantly. From a Crime Prevention Officers point of view I recommend fitting exterior lights with dusk to dawn sensors. These are light sensitive and come on when it gets dark and turn themselves off when it gets light.”

Managing Director of Steel City Lighting Direct, a local firm who specialise in industrial and commercial lighting products, Tony Baxter said, “Lighting the outside of your property can be done in numerous ways, but it is wise to bear certain factors in mind when selecting the right lighting product for your home or business.”

Mr Baxter added, “As the winter months draw in, it is tempting to purchase the brightest lights you can find from leading DIY stores that are up to 500 Watts, but we advise people that many energy saving alternatives can be purchased and will reduce the risk you run of upsetting your neighbours, or even worse recreating Blackpool illuminations!”

Energy saving alternatives are a much more environmentally friendly way of approaching home security and sodium and metal halide floodlights are a much better option for home use as they only omit between 70 and 150 Watts of power. For business premises, floodlights with motion sensors are a great solution, as they are much more cost effective than having lights that are left on all night, as this can cost businesses up to £10 a night in electricity bills.

Mr Baxter added, “Despite these products being of a much lower wattage, they can be up to three times brighter than their traditional 500 Watt counterparts. At Steel City Lighting we understand that security floodlights are an excellent way of deterring criminals, but we offer ways of adding security to your home without adding to your electric bills!

For business use, energy saving floodlights and these two are available in outputs of just 26 watts, and are inexpensive at around £20 per unit.”
There is no doubt that security lighting products can deter would-be burglars and it is also an effective means of reducing the fear of crime especially amongst vulnerable groups. Just the peace of mind generated by fitting external security lighting to the outside of your home can make it a worthwhile investment.

According to a recent report issued by the Halifax, there is a 20 per-cent rise in the number of burglaries during the winter months. Experts found that the average haul at each break-in last year alone was said to be in excess of £2,000.
Mr Foster added, “It is important to remember that selecting the appropriate position for your lighting is crucial, they should be positioned out of arms reach so that they cannot be disabled or destroyed by intruders.”

Don’t be Left in the Dark about Emergency Lighting

There could be devastating consequences and a high price to pay if your care premises are not protected properly with emergency lighting and fire prevention.

There seems to be a lot of confusion and it may have developed into a bit of a grey area in knowing where to go and who to ask about getting the correct emergency lighting and fire prevention advice. By speaking to the right organisations and getting a proper risk assessment, you will then provide the best protection for those in your care.

Managing Director of Steel City Lighting Direct, who specializes in industrial and commercial lighting products, Tony Baxter said, “Emergency escape lighting can be both maintained i.e. on all the time or non-maintained which operates when the normal lighting fails. Systems are available with durations of between one and three hours.”

Maintained internally illuminated exit signs will be necessary where the lighting may be dimmed or extinguished.

The confusion lies about what is exactly required for emergency lighting. But each premises is an individual as are the people who are going to be cared for. This means that each care home has to be individually risk assessed and passed so that requirements are met.

The primary purpose of emergency escape lighting is to illuminate escape routes, but it also illuminates other safety equipment. The emergency escape lighting luminaries can be stand-alone, dedicated units or incorporated into normal light fittings.

Monica Bell from Greenacre Care Services Ltd has recently installed all the required prevention equipment for her care home. Four essential areas to go for information, advice and risk assessment are; Building Regulations, The Fire, Health and Safety Executive, Your Local Planning Department and Local Authority.

Mrs Bell added, “Don’t skimp on safety, put the very best system in place. To protect people and get them out safely and quickly is paramount.”

It is vital you seek advice for a risk assessment from the official bodies, authorities and professional services then use emergency lighting suppliers like Steel City Lighting Direct in conjunction with a registered contractor.

Mr Baxter added, “The size and type of your premises and the risk to the people in your care will determine what emergency lighting is needed.”

The government legislation that covers emergency lighting is The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 – Fire Safety Order, which came into force on 1 October 2006. The order applies to non-residential premises and to the common parts of residential flats and houses in multiple-occupation, this includes lifts, stairwells and entrance halls.

The order says that for most care homes, a more comprehensive system of fixed automatic emergency escape lighting is likely to be needed, especially in larger more complex multi-story premises particularly those with extensive basements or where there are significant numbers of residents, staff or members of the public.

The responsibility for compliance to Fire safety including emergency lighting lies with the designated Responsible Person. There could be serious consequences and hefty fines if standards are not met.

Jenny Clough, from the Grange Nursing Home, Sandiacre, Nottingham said, “There is no emergency lighting in any of the rooms here at our home, but there is in the corridors. You have fire safety inspections once a year and every six months we have fire safety training. We have to find the fire to evacuate the residents, so emergency lighting is very important.”

If you are in any doubt about what emergency lighting you may need then it is essential you contact all the relevant authorities who can then advise you by giving you a risk assessment. Then Steel City Lighting Direct can supply you with the right product for the right premises.
